Georgia Northwestern And Polk School District To Hold Careers Camp

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) and Polk School District (PSD) are holding a Non-Traditional Careers Camp on Oct. 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on GNTC’s Polk County Campus in Rockmart, Ga.  The purpose of the camp is to increase 7th grade students’ awareness of non-traditional career training available at GNTC.  A non-traditional career is defined as a career where the opposite gender accounts for more than 70% of the workforce.

Eighty campers from Polk School District are expected to attend.  

 

Each camper will have the opportunity to participate in two learning activities that he or she has expressed an interest in; engage in and tour program demonstrations; and tour Georgia Northwestern’s Polk County Campus.

 

The learning activity choices for girls are Automotive Technology, Welding, Carpentry, Criminal Justice, and Computer Programming.  The choices for boys are Dental Assisting, Early Childhood Care and Education, Business Administrative Technology, Cosmetology, and Healthcare.

 

The program demos will allow students to tour, observe, and talk with instructors in the above program areas.

 

Through the generous support of The Southern Company and Redmond Emergency Medical Services, t-shirts and lunch will be provided to all campers.

Head Of BB&T's Chattanooga Commercial Banking Operations To Plead Guilty To Making Fraudulent Loans

The head of BB&T's Chattanooga commercial banking operations has been charged by federal authorities with making fraudulent loans. Tracy Brown is set to plead guilty to bank fraud on June 4.
