Covenant Volleyball Defeats Defeats Spellman In Three

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Chelsea Van Dyk had 11 kills and Stephanie Kirkpatrick tallied 27 assists as the Covenant volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-2, 25-9) win over GSAC foe Spelman College on Wednesday night.

Van Dyk accumulated a hitting percentage of .769 for the match, while as a team Covenant hit .458. Newly named GSAC Player of the Week, Kirkpatrick added three digs to her assist total. Pretoria den Boer chipped in with eight kills and Cora Schroeder and Jessica Chittenden had six kills apiece.

Covenant (8-3, 2-0 GSAC) never trailed, and the only tie came early in the third set before running away with the victory. The Lady Scots scored the first four points of the first set and the first eight points in the second set.

Defensively, Estes Carlson recorded seven digs with Paige Cheney adding five and Kelsey Mathis four. Cheney had six service aces, while Carlson and Hannah Rogers had four and three, respectively.

Spelman (1-8, 1-2 GSAC) was led by Solange McKenzie and Carissa Steinmann who each had three kills.

Covenant will return to the road this weekend when they face Huntingdon College and Piedmont College, both in Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
