Flames Seventh, Lady Flames Eighth In Cross Country Invitational

The Lee University cross country teams participated in the Sewanee/Berry Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning. The Flames placed seventh and the Lady Flames were eighth in fields that consisted of NCAA Divsion I, NCAA Division III and NAIA squads.

In the men’s 8K race, NCAA Division I Mississippi State University claimed the team title after placing four runners in the top 10.

The top finisher for the Flames was Victor Rotich. Rotich finished 28th out of 134 runners in a time of 27:47.09.

John Trollinger was 32nd (27:52.65), Emmanuel Kipchumba was 37th (28:04.62) and Austin Stansky was right behind at 38th (28:06.16).

Camden Perez crossed the line in 29:03.78 for 53rd place. Adam Tauzer was 79th (30:25.22) and Justin Knuth rounded out the Lee runners at 82nd (30:32.04).

Mississippi State’s women ran away with the team title after claiming the top six spots.

Jessica Childers was the top finisher for the Lady Flames on the 6K course. The freshman from Englewood, Ohio, crossed the finish line 27th out of 138 runners with a time of 24:40.62.

Ashley Matthews was 37th (25:07.69), Emily Carden placed 73rd (27:25.73), Storyie Miller was 75th (27:29.25) and Rachel Waltz finished 79th (27:47.37).

Emily Arneson had a time of 28:53.70 for 98th place and Alexis Hewitt’s time of 29:50.14 put her in 107th.

The teams will take a few weeks off before heading to Louisville, Ky., for the Louisville Cross Country Classic on September 29.


Chattanooga FC Host Storm Saturday

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
