The County School Board on Thursday night voted to install a new roof at Central High School and chose Mike Evatt to continue as chairman and George Ricks as vice chairman.
Central had to send students home on Monday at 10:30 a.m. after the recent deluge caused water to pour into the library, classrooms and other areas of the school.
Chairman Evatt said an architect will draw up plans for the new roof and work should start in about two weeks by the JDH Company.
It will cost $729,000 with about half coming from insurance proceeds and half from the fund balance.
Mr. Evatt said, "The Central roof was annihilated by a hailstorm this past spring."
He said work continues on putting a new roof on the Howard School.
Mr. Evatt said there have been nagging problems with the roof at Loftis Middle School ever since it was built. He said, "The contractor worked on it periodically for eight or nine years. That contractor is now out of business."
