John Henry Higgins, 69, of Dalton, GA, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at The Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on April 26, 1943 to the late Chester and Minnie Smith Higgins; and was also preceded in death by a brother, CharlesHiggins.
John was a deacon of the Full Bible Trinity Free Church.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Velma Burchfield Higgins of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Vilinda and Ricky Petty of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Higgins of Dalton, C.M. and Mary Higgins of Calhoun; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Fletcher Jackson of Calhoun, Shirley and H.L. Kirby of Calhoun and Mary Lee and Jimmy Black also of Calhoun; grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca and Anthony Overby of Dalton, Emily and Mathew Dempsey of Dalton and Timothy Singleton of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Halie and Elizabeth Dempsey of Dalton.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. John Henry Higgins will be held Saturday September 22, at 4 p.m. at Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Jarrett and Pastor Jimmy Black officiating. Serving as pall bearers will be T.W. Reece, Jimmy Black, Mark Priest, Chris Burchfield, Michael Burchfield, Anthony Higgins, JR. Jackson and Craig Kirby. John will be laid to rest at Hall Memorial (Fairview) Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 21, at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home in Calhoun from 5-9 p.m.
