Lady Scots Win 4-0 Over Greenville

Friday, September 21, 2012
The wins just keep on rolling for the Covenant women's soccer team. The Lady Scots won their fifth consecutive match with a 4-0 victory over visiting Greenville (Ill.) College on Friday evening at Scotland Yard.

Katelyn Newsome scored twice, once in the first half on a breakaway goal in the 14th minute and then again in the second half. Newsome's second score came off a beautiful pass from Rachel Bernard into the box where Newsome finished to give Covenant a 3-0 edge.

Freshman Jessica Rowe scored the Lady Scots' second goal when she received the ball after it deflected off Greenville keeper Heidi Koehl. Rowe then took a few touches towards the empty net and gently nudged the ball in to make it 2-0.

Kathryn Allison finished off the scoring in the 63rd minute when she was the recipient of another great pass, this time from Kara Lee, and found the back of the net from a few yards out to put the Lady Scots up 4-0.

Keepers Hannah Bales and Lucy Johnson combined to keep Greenville off the scoreboard. Bales recorded the only save. Koehl had three saves for the Lady Panthers.

Covenant (5-1-1) outshot the visitors 15-2 and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Greenville (2-4-1) had its only shot on goal in the first half by Natalie Henneberry.

Covenant will have a quick turnaround as they face GSAC foe Wesleyan College on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
