Seven different players scored, including six in the first half, as the Covenant Lady Scots cruised past GSAC rival Wesleyan College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Macon. The win for Covenant is its sixth in a row and moves the Lady Scots to 6-1-1 for the season.
Amy Dykstra got the scoring going in the fifth minute with an unassisted goal, her second score of the season. In the 20th minute, it was Dykstra setting up teammate Mo Cross who found the back of the net for the score that put Covenant up 2-0. The goal was Cross' second of the season as well.
The Lady Scots continued to add to their lead in first half when Mary Buys scored, assisted by Jenna Vreeland, to make it 3-0. Covenant then got two scores in just over a minute's time late in the first half. Bethany Logan scored in the 37th minute off an assist from Cross, then in the 39th minute it was Vreeland who found the back of the net to make it 5-0. Hannah Weichbrodt capped the scoring spree in the half with her first goal of the yea in the 41st minute.
Covenant was held scoreless for most of the second half until Joanna Brauer recored her first goal of the year in the 89th minute to make it 7-0.
The Lady Scots outshot Wesleyan 30-1, with 21 of those shots on goal. Wesleyan (0-6) keeper Abby Stephens was kept busy as she made 14 saves. Covenant keeper Hannah Bales had to make just one save.
Covenant returns to Scotland Yard on Tuesday, September 25 with a match against Birmingham Southern. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
