Joseph Akins Performs At Southside Casual Classics Oct. 8

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Southside Casual Classics will feature Dr. Joseph Akins in concert on Monday, Oct. 8, 7:30 p.m. at the Camp House, 1427 Williams St.  Dr. Akins (pronounced “Ache-inns”) lives a dual life as both a piano artist and a college professor.

To date, he has released four solo albums, A Piano Christmas (2011), Spirit Touch (2009), Masterpeace (2007), and Keys to the Heart (1997), which have received extensive airplay and favorable reviews worldwide. His heartfelt playing is often compared to that of Jim Brickman and David Lanz, but the blending of his southern roots and jazz background has created a distinct sound of his own.

Over the last decade, Dr. Akins has been touring the United States performing in churches, homes and performance halls, often sharing the stage with venerable piano artists such as David Lanz, Liz Story and David Nevue.

In addition, he is an award-winning associate professor at the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University. He received his Doctorate of Education in 2006.

Southside Casual Classics concerts are every second Monday of the month at the Camp House.  They are free, and a free will donation is accepted for the artists.  It is the goal to offer wonderful and entertaining concerts by local artists and ensembles in a very relaxed atmosphere, where communication with the audience is encouraged.
