Gas Prices Drop 5.8 Cents In Chattanooga

Monday, September 24, 2012

Average retail gasoline prices in Chattanooga have fallen 5.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.56 per gallon on Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.81 per gallon, according to gasoline price website ChattanoogaGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Chattanooga during the past week, prices Sunday were 26.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 8.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 8.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 29.0 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"The national average has begun to drop nicely over the last week, and while it certainly doesn't feel like much, it is noteworthy," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Oil prices were all over the map last week, closing in on $100 per barrel one day and dropping to $92 per barrel later in the week. I've probably had more double takes watching oil prices in the last week than I've had all summer. Watching oil prices last week was as wild as watching the Detroit Tigers try to take a division lead over the White Sox."

He and Jimmy, Henry and Bill went to the University of Virginia where they were roommates in an old, beat up house that was painted pink. Naturally, the place became known as the “Pink Palace” but lest ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: The Scottsboro Boys

There is a good-sized train tunnel that runs under the northern tip of Lookout Mountain, right next to Cummings Highway. It was inside that tunnel on this very weekend 86 years ago, that the worst tragedy in the fabled history of the South was born. This was during the tight grip of the Depression and about two dozen hobos had jumped the train from the time it left Southern Railway's ... (click for more)
