Senior Paula Passmore (Merritt Island, Fla.) was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The libero helped lead the Mocs over Appalachian State Friday night to open up SoCon play with a win for the first time since 2008, and pulled closer to second all-time in the UTC record book with 2007 career digs.
Passmore tallied 57 digs over the two-match weekend for Chattanooga. The Merritt Island, Fla., native collected 23 digs against ASU and 43 in the Mocs' 3-1 loss to Western Carolina on Saturday. While averaging 8.14 digs per set, Passmore also earned four assists and a service ace during her first SoCon matches of the season.
The senior leads the SoCon with 375 digs and is averaging 6.25 digs per set this season. She is now just 51 digs away from moving into second all-time at UTC behind NCAA career digs leader Lara Newberry (2005-08) who holds the record with 3176 digs.
Passmore and the Mocs return to action Friday as they host Samford at 7 p.m. at Maclellan Gym. Chattanooga entertains Wofford Saturday at 7 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
