East Ridge SCYFL Teams Again Win 5 Of 6 Games

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

For the third time in four weeks of Scenic City Youth Football League action, East Ridge won five of six games played on a Saturday.

It was almost a perfect Homecoming at Raymond James Stadium and Earl Shanks Field in East Ridge.

The East Ridge Pioneers 12s (4-0), Mustangs 12s (4-0) and Pioneers 8s (4-0) remained undefeated for the season.

Kevin Wright’s East Ridge Pioneers 12s won 26-0 over Dayton White.

The Pioneers have not surrendered a point so far this season.

“We had another strong offensive and defensive performance by the whole team,” Wright said. “We’re looking forward to Saturday’s game with Harrison at Finley Stadium.”

Kamron Holcomb scored on a 45-yard sweep and Stephon Walker ran a kickoff back for a touchdown for the East Ridge 12s.

Korey Chitwood scored on a 5-yard run and Tre Johnson took a pitch and carried the ball 15 yards for a TD.

Kaben Bragg was on the receiving end of a Caleb Yates’ TD pass. Yates also completed a pass to Nolan Letzgus.

Defensive standouts for East Ridge were Chris Humphries, Eric Bennett, Jonathon Jofre, James Parks, Dennis Freeman and Will Wooten.

The passing combination of Austin Chastain to Jordan “Big Bird” Sims helped to give the Mustangs 12s a 26-0 victory over the Dayton Green.

Chastain hooked up with Sims on 58 and 36-yard TD passes. He also threw to Bucky Williams and Ta Darrell Hodge for conversions.

Sims caught a 33-yard halfback pass from Jordan Hughley, who rushed for 93 yards and two TDs.

The Mustangs got impressive defensive performances from Michael “Tika” Ricketts, Chris Harris, Riley Harrison, Harley Walker, Josh Burnette,  Austin McDaniel, Zahir Smith, Amaleki Jordan, Hughley, Williams and Hodge.

“When we have a shutout we give every player a Moon Pie the next practice,” said Coach Stump Martin. “The Moon Pies are of course in the shape of a zero. They have been asking for peanut butter Moon Pies so we’ll have to find them by Tuesday afternoon.”

Behind the outstanding play of Carson Yates, the East Ridge 8s stretched a three-year win streak to 26 games with a 26-0 victory over Soddy-Daisy.

Yates made 10 tackles on defense and rushed for 165 yards and three TDs on four carries.

Dacorian Jones-Montgomery, Mason Long and Kyle Songer helped to lead the East Ridge defensive unit with two tackles each for losses

The Pioneers defensive effort limited the Trojans to two first downs for the day.

Brodie Swader had 65 yards rushing and a TD and Gage Sartin dashed 60 yards for a score.

Jakobe Thomas had 40 yards and Long added 30 yards rushing.

“All of these TDs and yards rushing were made possible by the offensive line blocking of Chase Rizzo, Tre Thompson, Brenston Benson, Songer and Jones-Montgomery," said Coach Mike Long.

The East Ridge 7s defeated Soddy-Daisy 26-12.

Coach Scooter King’s Pioneers 7s (3-1) got two TDs from the speedy Jaylon Moore.

Ty Mosely scored and Markel Byrd broke a long scoring run before turning a flip into the end zone.

On defense, East Ridge got top performances from Perrin Clark, Collin Thomas, Logan Carmona and Ike King.

“Not bad for a team that has 13 of 20 players who have never played football before this season,” King said.

The East Ridge 6s defeated Rossville 25-0.

The youngest Pioneers (3-1) got another standout performance from Dylan Jordan, who scored on a 73-yard run and recovered a fumble.

Evan Schwarzl threw a 99-yard scoring pass and run to Jacob Long.

Kamron Kindred scored on a 65-yard scamper and Anthony Henderson powered his way for a 35-yard TD.

The 10-under Dayton Eagles defeated the East Ridge Pioneers 26-0.

Wayne Janow and Adam Monterda were defensive standouts for East Ridge.

The running of Dagan Fowler and Cole Rizzo highlighted the Pioneers offensive attack.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem - And Response

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem.
