Wofford scored three, first half goals and went on to post a 4-0 win against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team in Southern Conference action Thursday night at Finley Stadium.
The Mocs, without their regular goalkeeper (Lauren Thomas), fell to 2-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the SoCon, while Wofford improved to 6-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in SoCon play.
Wofford got its first goal in the 20th minute on an unassisted shot from Amanda Morris who dropped the shot into the left side of net.
Chelsea Turner took a pass from teammate Vicki Hill to put the Terriers up 2-0 at the 39:20 mark of the half and Chloe Bracket picked up Maureen Buff’s deflected free kick to make it 3-0 at the half.
In the second half, Alex Kachulis charged the goal on a corner kick and forced a shot through the defense and into the net for the final score.
Chattanooga, still without keeper Thomas from an injury sustained last week was replaced with newcomer Haley Myers in the net. Myers joined the team Wednesday and had not yet gone through a training session with the team. She made three saves including one that nearly got away, falling on it to keep it away from the Wofford offense.
Myers played goalkeeper for Soddy Daisy High School the past four years and helped guide rhe Trojans to 74 wins in four years, four region titles and two trips to the state tournament.
Wofford outshot the Mocs 19-8 with seven shots on goal to Chattanooga’s four. UTC senior Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had four shots with three on goal and sophomore Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) sent four toward the net with one on goal.
The Mocs will hit the road for a Sunday matchup at Furman. The game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. Links for live stats and streaming video will be available on the schedule page at GoMocs.com.
