Charles E. Crumbley, 70, of Dalton, GA, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Crumbley Meers; step-father, Louie Meers; brothers, James Donald Crumbley and John Gilbert Crumbley; step-daughter, Marla R. Hendricks; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Charles was in the United States Army where he served as a Medic. He worked for a few years at the Boston Crown Cotton Mill before going to work at Hamilton Medical Center. He met his wife Bernice when they were working in surgery together. They married and attended nursing school together, both working until their retirement. At his retirement, Charles had served forty years as a Surgical Scrub Nurse, Certified Surgical Technician. He was a member of Cedar Valley Church of God for over twenty seven years. He was a devoted husband and father. The children all agree that God blessed them with a real Dad. He loved the Lord and was ready to go home.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Crumbley of the residence; step-son and wife, Mitchell and Cynthia Turner of Gonzales, Louisiana; step-daughters, Jamie Holt of Resaca and Cindy Bowen of Anniston, AL; son-in-law, Joe Hendricks of Dalton; sister, Georgia Veal of AL; nieces, nephews and step- grandchildren.

The funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Crumbley will be held Sunday, September 30, at 4 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Brown officiating.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, September 29 from 4-8 p.m. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation of Ga., Conasauga Kidney Foundation or the Ga. Heart Association. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery with a White Dove Release Ceremony to conclude the service.

Julian Peeples Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove Chapel, Dalton, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. He was an employee of Lowes Home Improvement Store in Kimball, TN. William "Bill" Wills Dowdy

William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
