Dalton Students See Increase In College Entrance Exam Scores

Saturday, September 29, 2012

Dalton High School students increased their school’s average scores on college entrance exams for 2012, while increasing the total number of students taking the exams. The average SAT score for Dalton High students was 1465 up from1427 in 2011. The same number of students, 153, took the SAT in both 2011and 2012.

Dalton High’s average score was 13 points above the state average of1452. Dalton High’s average ACT score was 20.2, up from the 2011 average ACT scoreof 19.8. This year 130 students took the test as compared to 125 in 2011. The state average for the ACT was 20.7. Typically scores decline as the number of students taking the test increase but that wasn’t true at Dalton High.

“We are very proud to see more of our studentstaking the college entrance exams and increasing their score,” said Debbie Freeman, principal at Dalton High School. “This is a direct reflection of therigorous work our students and teachers are doing on a daily basis. While this is a high stakes exam which occurs in high school, it's a direct reflection of our district's work and the high expectations we have for students.”

Morris Innovative High School does not have average scores for college entranceexams since they only received their school code from the College Board in the middle of the school year in 2011-2012. Morris Innovative High will receive theirfirst school report on college entrance exam scores in 2013.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem.
