The Barons broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth, then added two more in the sixth to record a 5-1 Labor Day win over the Lookouts in Birmingham on the final day of the regular season.

Chattanooga was out hit 6-to-4 and the Lookouts committed two errors.

The Jackson Generals finished in first with the best overall record in the North Division of the Southern League with a record of 79-60. Chattanooga was second at 73-65.

The Generals won the first half, and Chattanooga won the second half. The teams will play a best-of-five series. The first two games will be played in Jackson on Sept. 6, 7; Game three and, if necessary, four and five will be played at AT&T Field beginning Sept. 8.

Chattanooga was swept last year in the first round of the playoffs by the Tennessee Smokies.

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest.
