Anderson Waging City Council Campaign As "Openly Gay"; Partner Of 10 Years Says Getting Many Letters Of Support

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

The Chris Anderson for City Council campaign said he is the city's first openly gay candidate for political office.

And Mr. Anderson's partner of 10 years, Phillip Powell, said there have been many expressions of support.

Mr. Anderson is seeking the District 7 seat now held by Manny Rico.

Mr. Powell said, "Soon, Chris and I will celebrate our ten year anniversary. We've been through a lot together and this campaign has been an amazing experience. The day that Chris announced for City Council, I was both extremely proud of him and excited for the future. There has been a huge groundswell of support from the community and across Chattanooga, with individuals from all walks of life committing their time, talents, and resources to this campaign.

"Even still, I have been absolutely blown away by the notes of support and encouragement that Chris and I have received over the past few hours. Chris sat down with Nooga for an article that came out today, discussing his plans for the district and the Democratic National Convention taking place this week. I was incredibly moved by Chris' courage, standing for himself and so many others by discussing the fact that he is an LGBT American with a passion for his community.

"Chris is making history, but he needs your help. Contribute $25 or whatever you can today and let's build a better Chattanooga together."

Immigration Reform - And Response

We do not have to pander to those in our country who were not invited and made their way here on their own. Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine.
