The Tennessee Arts Commission has announced that the application process for Student Ticket Subsidy (STS) funds will open Tuesday, at 8 a.m. (CST).
Student Ticket Subsidy is a program funded through specialty license plate funds and administered through the Tennessee Arts Commission. This year the program will provide $500,000 in student ticket subsidy funds to public schools for arts and cultural experiences, and to encourage schools to expose Tennessee students to a broad variety of cultural experiences, arts disciplines and artists.
“Student Ticket Subsidy funds are making a difference in the lives of young people across the state,” said Anne Pope, executive director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “Through this program we are able to expand their views of the world and enrich their educational experience. If not for this program, many students would never experience a cultural event like the symphony or live theater.”
According to Ms. Pope, last year approximately 430 public schools received STS grants. Schools may apply for a maximum of $3,000 per school year for tickets or travel expenses to attend arts and cultural field trips or to pay artist fees to bring artists or arts groups into the schools. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until all funds are expended. Applications must be received a minimum of 30 days prior to the start of the project and applicants must use an STS provider found on the Arts Commission’s Teaching Artists Roster.
The STS application opens on Sept. 11, for projects beginning on or after Oct. 11.
