Jonathan Evans, M.D., C.M.D, has been appointed corporate medical director for Life Care Centers of America, effective Sept. 1.

Dr. Evans succeeds Kenneth Scott, D.O., who advances to chief medical officer.

Dr. Scott will continue to lead Life Care Physician Services, while Dr. Evans will direct the programs, policies and personnel of the clinical services department of Life Care and its support of all facilities. He will report to Dr. Scott.

“These appointments are a natural progression in the development of our on-site physicians’ initiative, as well as the continuing emphasis on quality clinical services for Life Care,” said Forrest L. Preston, Life Care chairman, who made the appointments. “Dr. Scott has done an exceptional job of recruiting, hiring and overseeing the work of about 50 doctors to date in our centers, and their contributions are exceeding our expectations.”

Dr. Evans has provided counsel and instruction for Life Care’s on-site physician initiative since its inception in 2009.

“Dr. Evans has already proven himself invaluable in consulting with our clinical departments of nursing, on-site physicians and medical directors,” said Dr. Scott. “Having his vision and experience to work with on these projects will further enhance our ability to provide the best care possible to our residents.”

A graduate of the Mayo Medical School, Dr. Evans completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Mayo Clinic. He was a staff physician and associate professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic before leaving to pursue a Master’s in Public Health degree at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is a former Chief of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

A medical director since 1995, Dr. Evans is a primary care geriatrician, with an emphasis on long-term and end-of-life care. His professional goals include improving the health and care of older persons, maintaining the dignity and nobility of spirit of long-term care residents and building up associates in the long-term care field.

Dr. Evans is currently president-elect of the American Medical Directors Association

“I am deeply honored to join the family of caring professionals at every Life Care center across the country,” said Dr. Evans. “They dedicate themselves to serve those in need of loving, compassionate care. I wholeheartedly embrace Life Care’s values and am devoted to living them.”

Founded in 1976, Life Care is a nationwide health care company. With headquarters in Cleveland, Life Care operates or manages more than 220 nursing, post-acute and Alzheimer’s centers in 28 states.
