Bradley County Sheriff’s deputies on Thursday morning found a man walking along Dalton Pike who has been identified by Whitfield County officers as the driver of a stolen vehicle they chased across the state line Wednesday night.
The clothing worn by Levi Daniel Coats, 24, of Dalton matched the clothing description given to Georgia deputies investigating the theft.
Whitfield County and Varnell city police units started pursuing the Nissan Maxima shortly after it was taken from a convenience store on Cleveland Highway in Varnell. The vehicle crossed into Bradley County where deputies deployed spike strips near Waterville School.
The strips, which contain small pieces of metal, caused the vehicle’s tires to slowly lose air. The driver, who was alone, was forced to flee on foot.
Coats is charged in Bradley County as a fugitive from justice. He will be held at the county jail pending extradition to Georgia where additional charges are expected.
