Boyd-Buchanan Tops Howard, 28-18

Jim Cardwell has 211 rushing yards

Junior quarterback Jim Cardwell rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns and had one interception on defense to lead Boyd Buchanan to a 28-18 win against visiting Howard in high school football Friday night.

Cardwell had scoring runs of 50 and 15 yards, while teammate Rance Harden scored twice from 8 and 9 yards (his 7th and 8th TDs of the season) as the Bucs improved to 4-0.

Howard (0-3) was led by junior quarterback Terrance Brooks who rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown and passed for 202 yards with two interceptions and one score.

  Teammate Lawayne Ruffin rushed for 21 yards and one touchdown along with five catches for 97 yards and one touchdown.

Defensive Standouts:  Grant Mathis (Boyd-Buc) had an interception, a fumble recovery, blocked a extra point attempt, had one tackle for a loss and 3.5 tackles ... Jim Cardwell (Boyd-Buc) had one interception and 2.5 tackles ... Stephen Ingram (Boyd-Buc) had a fumble recovery, two tackles for a loss.

LaWayne Ruffin (Howard) had an interception, while Xavier Harris (Howard) had a fumble recovery.

"This was a tough game and Howard is a good football team," said Boyd-Buchanan coach Grant Reynolds. "We need to play the bigger schools to make us a better football team."

Band Kudos: "And the Howard band did a great job entertaining the fans."

"We hung with Boyd most of the night, but missed some tackles," said Howard coach Mike Calloway. "We were able to move the ball on the ground and through the air."

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
