Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  The Manufacturers Road entrance ramp onto US 27 North has been closed until spring 2013 to allow for construction of several retaining walls and portions of new bridges.  Detours are posted.  The Manning Street entrance ramp to U.S. 27 North and the Manning Street and Whitehall Road exit ramps from U.S. 27 North have been permanently closed.  All work is weather permitting.  Should inclement weather prevent work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place at the earliest possible time.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor will be laying pipe across the roadway at several locations.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

SR-60 construction of concrete slab bridge over branch (LM 0.44):  (This project is near the Meigs County Line.)  The contractor may be performing work throughout the project area between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is January.  




Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute On Tuesday At UTC Postponed, Due To Inclement Weather

" O, King: A Tribute to the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.," scheduled for  7:30 p.m. on  Tuesday,  in UTC's Roland Hayes Concert Hall, has been postponed due to the threat of snow and icy conditions. It will be rescheduled. (click for more)

Ochs Highway Closed In St. Elmo Due To Water Main Break

Ochs Highway is closed at the intersection of Saint Elmo Avenue due to a main water break.   The road is scheduled to reopen on  Thursday . Light Snow Reaches Chattanooga Early Tuesday Afternoon; Many Courts And Other Events Cancelled; W Road, Roberts Mill Road Closed

Snow began falling in downtown Chattanooga early Tuesday afternoon, but there was little accumulation.  Less than an inch of snow was predicted, but a number of courts and events were cancelled. Young Gets 23 Years In North Chattanooga Murder

Abram "AB" Young pleaded guilty on Tuesday morning to a murder in North Chattanooga and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. Young was 17 at the time of the 2015 slaying of 19-year-old Charles Holsey during a drug deal behind the Kangaroo on Dallas Road. He is now 20.
