Mary Jane “Moodie” Penny, 77, of Signal Mountain, was born September 4, 1935, and died on Thursday, January 10, 2013. 

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Penny, Sr.; sisters, Mildred Ballard, Virginia Hallman, Lucille Crowe and brother, Garland Carney.

She is survivors by her brothers, Robert and Mynatt Carney; sister, Jewel Smith; daughter, Deloris (John) Ferrell; son, Harold “Butch” (Debbie) Penny; grandchildren, April (Jon) Totherow, Brooke (Curtis) Penney, Daniel and Kelly Ferrell; great-grandchildren, Alexus Ferrell and Channing Totherow.

Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace, 877-3524 with Dr. Steven Granger officiating. Interment will be private.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s Association.
