Melvin L. Phillips, 73, of Dalton, GA, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bell Kuhn, Louise Langley and Juanita Wimpy; and grandson, Chuck Bryson.
He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Phillips of the residence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Jimmy Sneed of Dalton and Sheila and Sammy Cagle of Cohutta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Vicky Phillips of Dalton and Allen and Cheryl Phillips of Cohutta; brother, Arnold Phillips of Dalton; two sisters, Jean Hammontree and Mae Crow both of Dalton; four granddaughters; six grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Melvin Phillips will be held Tuesday, January 15 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Ridley officiating. Burial will be at Varnell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 14 from 5-9 p.m. at the Julian Peeples Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
