Arthur James Dunnigan, 89, died on January 12, 2013.  

He was born on September 4, 1923 in Richmond, Va.

He was educated in Huntsville. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a sergeant in World War II.  He was a member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a hard worker, usually working two jobs to support his family.  He was a quiet, loyal, loving and supportive man.  He worked several jobs including 18 years at Erlanger Hospital and retired from Walter A. Wood Supply after 35 years at the age of 80.

During his retirement, he enjoyed word games, reading and watching Law and Order (all of them).  He loved to travel and spend time with his family.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Dunnigan, Lou Ollie Kelly Dunnigan-Toney and sister, Lucy Battle and nephew, Abraham Battle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, N. Berthene Dunnigan; daughters, Yvonne (Yancey) Thomas, Lily Dunnigan of Chattanooga, and Cynthia (Lonnie) Dawkins of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Michael J., Kerry L., Anthony L. and Kenisha N. Dunnigan of Chattanooga, and Damien O., Jacqueline M and Danielle E. Dawkins of Nashville; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be at Lakewood East.

The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.





Conerly, Jamie "Jim" Franklin, Jr.

Jamie (Jim) Franklin Conerly, Jr., 77, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, died on Tuesday July 29, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, in the funeral home chapel with Elder Jim Herman officiating.  Interment will be in Collegedale Cemetery. Tessie Opal Fraley Graham died on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at her home in Chattanooga, after a long illness. She was 86. Mrs. Graham was born May 11, 1928, in McClure, Va., to James Otis Fraley and Josie Vanover Fraley. City Council Presents Potential Ordinance To Address Noise Level Downtown

Members of the Chattanooga City Council presented a potential ordinance to address concerns about the noise level downtown. If passed, the ordinance will put limits on both dB(A) and dB(C) levels of sound. It was noted, "When we compare our dB level, it is clear that Chattanooga is lower than Nashville and Knoxville." Man Shot On Ohls Avenue While Working In His Yard

A Chattanooga man was shot Tuesday evening, while working in his yard. At approximately 8:55 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to 4217 Ohls Ave. for a shooting.
