Dorothy Hines Lawrence, 80, died on January 10, 2013 at a local health care facility.

“Dot” as she was affectionately known, graduated in Howard High’s Class of 1951.  She was formerly employed with Chattanooga Public Schools as a substitute teacher for the following schools: Avondale Elementary, Joseph E. Smith and Clara Carpenter.  Dorothy also performed private sitting CNA services in private homes, St. Barnabas and later at the Davis Nursing Home. 

She was a faithful member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the following areas: Sunday School teacher, Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and Women’s Auxiliary. She also represented Rose of Sharon in the BM& E (Baptist, Missionary and Educational) Society at the District Meetings.  During her personal time she enjoyed the following hobbies of bowling, traveling, softball and singing.

She was preceded in death by her both husbands, Otis Hines and Lindsey Lawrence; parents, John and Christine Bigoms; brother, Williams Bigoms; sister, Gussie Manns; sister-in-law, Maggie Bigoms and nephew, Michael D. Bigoms.

Survivors include her brother, Tony C. Bigoms, Sr. of Atlanta; nephews, Curtis R. Bigoms, Sr. and Tony C. Bigoms, both of Chattanooga; nieces, Bernadette (Carlos) Lavender of Georgia and Quennechous “CC” Bigoms Posley of Chattanooga; great-nephew, Pasqueal  Bigoms, Curtis R. Bigoms, Jr., Jonah Gadsden, Tyler Lavender and Tony Bigoms III; great-niece, Camille Lavender, all of Atlanta; devoted cousins, Robert and Elroy Bailey of Chattanooga and Barbara Register of Staten Island, N.Y.; a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Moore officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.

Her body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Nancie Garner Bailey, 61, died quietly on October 24, 2014. A native of Rogers, Ar., Nancie leaves behind a devoted husband of 33 years, Jimmy; her mother, Rosemary Garner, of Rogers; daughters, Jocelyn Bailey and Laura Franklin; son-in-law, Selmon Ted Franklin IV; a brother and sister-in-law, Reece and Sherri Garner, of Seligman, Mo.; and dozens of wonderful family and friends. ... Parker, L. Dee

L. Dee Parker, 97, of Chattanooga, died on Friday October 24, 2014. Dee was a lifelong member of First Nazarene Church where she taught Young Boys Sunday School class for many years and was Treasurer of the Senior Adult Ministry. She was the wife of the late Homer H. 2 People Shot Saturday Night On Carousel Road

Two people were shot Saturday evening on Carousel Road. At  9:11 p.m. , Chattanooga Police responded to 1406 Carousel Road on a call of a person shot. Teenager Killed In ATV Accident Thursday Night

Damon Lee Jones, 15, was killed Thursday night in an ATV accident in Walker County. It was reported he was riding with a 17-year old, when they tried to enter a church parking lot, but ran into a cable barrier. The accident happened on Dunwoody Road in LaFayette.
