Signal Mountain Genealogical Society Meets Feb. 5

The Signal Mountain Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Walden Town Hall. 

The speaker for the day will be Joan Hanks. Her presentation, "2012 to 2015 -The Bicentennial of the War of 1812," will inform those in attendance of the remembrances and celebrations of that historic event.  

The hostess for the day will be Ellen Matthews.  Refreshments will be served at 1 p.m., and the business session will begin at 1:30 p.m. As always, guests are welcome.



John S. Elder Was Early Settler At Ooltewah

The Elders were among Tennessee's earliest pioneers and were well acquainted with Davy Crockett. John S. Elder and his nephew, Robert S. Elder, made their way to Hamilton County at an early date. The Elder Mountain Elders

The John Elders were early settlers at Ooltewah. Another family of Elders came to Chattanooga from Trenton, Tn. This family acquired a huge tract on Raccoon Mountain and renamed it Elder Mountain. Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy In Officer-Involved Shooting At Lakesite

A Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in an officer involved shooting in the Lakesite area on Friday morning.   Authorities said it happened around 9:35 a.m. near the 1900 block of Wilkes Avenue.   Deputies were called on "an unwanted party."   There was a confrontation with deputies and a man at the mobile home was shot.   ...
