R. James Coulter Sr., 79, died on January 16, 2013, in Leesburg, Virginia.
James was born February 6, 1933, in Chattanooga, to Buford and Reba Coulter. He graduated from Central High School in 1951 and from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, in 1955. On March 4, 1956, he married the former June Rish in Chattanooga. James enjoyed many life activities, but a few truly were his passion. He was active in Barbershop Quartet and sang in church choir. He was an ordained deacon and volunteered in the church clothing ministry. His truest passion was that which he had for June, his wife, whom he lovingly dedicated his time to and loved sharing time with his family. James also served in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Artillery stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before he was released with an Honorable Discharge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Randolph (Randy) Coulter.
James is survived by his wife, June, his son Robert J. (Dawn) Coulter, Jr., of Leesburg, Va.; three grandchildren Ryan (Treasure), Kirsten and Robert III; his sister, Marlene (Bill) Knowles of Chattanooga, a niece, two nephews and three great grandchildren.
A service to celebration his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend John Andrus officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
