William G. (“Bill”) Braswell, 81, of Hixson, died on Thursday, January 17, 2013.  

He was the son of the late Troy and Kathryne Braswell. Bill was a devoted husband and father. He left as a legacy to his family that a person’s worth is measured, not by what he has, but by whom he is, to whom he belongs, and by his integrity, good character, and deep commitment to God, family, and country.

Bill was a veteran, serving as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and the United States Marines.  He was retired from DuPont and loved to golf, bowl, and watch the Tennessee Vols.  He was a member of Clear Creek church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Dean Braswell.

He is survived by his daughter, Terri Braswell Gilbert (Tim) of Ooltewah; son, William Bradley Braswell, Sr. (Melissa) of Ooltewah; five grandchildren, Bailey and Delaney Gilbert and Bradley, Blake and Briggs Braswell; two brothers, Charles Braswell of Knoxville, and James Braswell of Marietta, GA; two sisters, Marilyn Hestle of Franklin, TN, and Frances McNeil of Brentwood, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the North Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister Joey Davis officiating.  Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery with nephews, Danny Braswell and Tim Hestle and friends, 1SG. Lee Carter, Todd Faulk, Billy Hester, and Lamar Howard serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Berry, J.C. Howard, and Buell Hulsey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Martin-Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, and United Cerebral Palsy, 1200 9th Avenue North, Suite 110, Nashville, TN 37208.
