Walker, Thomas Milton (Whitwell)

Thomas Milton Walker died on January 18, 2013 due to complications from a stroke at the age of 94. 

Thomas was born in Whitwell on January, 26, 1918, to parents, Thomas M. and Willie M. Walker. He was a lifelong resident of Whitwell and graduated from Whitwell High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the communications corp and returned home to help in the family lumber business. He later served as a rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 25 years. He carried mail to many areas of Marion County, including the Pocket and Griffith Creek communities and also Victoria and Mullins Cove area. 

Thomas married Christina M. Patrick in 1958 and they remained faithfully together 45 years until her death in 2003. Together, they raised two sons and later enjoyed two grandchildren. Thomas liked visiting with his friends and he served as an elder in the Whitwell Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Whitwell Masonic Lodge. 

Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Cecile M. Walker. 

He is survived by his sons, Thomas Charles Walker, Whitwell and George W. Walker, daughter-in-law, Mary A. Walker, and grandsons, Andrew and Aaron Walker, all of Chattanooga. 

The family would like to thank Thomas' faithful care givers over the years including Mrs. Lillie Kilgore and Rev. Phillip Layne. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Phillip Layne officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery. 

Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Highway 28, Whitwell, TN.
