Sevierville Probation Officer Fired After Arrest For Misuse Of Funds

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

The Department of Correction has fired a probation/parole officer who was arrested last Wednesday for theft. An investigation revealed that Joshua Keith DeBord misused funds paid by offenders under his supervision in the Knoxville area. The offenders thought they were paying court ordered fines and fees but DeBord kept the money for his personal use. DeBord was arrested and booked into the Sevier County Jail

Commissioner Derrick Schofield called the charges a serious violation of the public trust and made the decision to end DeBord’s career, effective Jan.

28. DeBord was assigned to the Sevierville office and faces prosecution for theft over $500.

The department will soon launch an automated fee payment system that will assist in preventing this type of abuse. Beginning in June, offenders on probation or parole will be able to pay their court ordered fines, fees or restitution online rather than submitting money orders and cash in person.

“As part of the top to bottom review of our agency, we determined an automated system would increase efficiency and free up our probation/parole officers to spend more time in the community supervising offenders,” Commissioner Schofield said.  “Our commitment is to enhance public safety by ensuring we utilize the best methods available to add accountability to the system.”

Bikers Need To Have Licenses And Insurance - And Response

I am okay with Haslam’s idea of raising the gas tax and lowering the food tax.  But, I want to see a tax of bicycles since they have their own lanes now and they also have to be maintained. How much revenue would that bring in?  I would think if we have enough bike riders to have the lanes in the first place, there must be enough to generate some money for road improvements. ... Roy Exum: Where Is Central’s Auditorium?

I am surely one of the biggest proponents of high school athletics there is, especially after half a decade of being an eye witness to the vast array of lessons that are learned every day by anyone associated with sports. That said, I have watched the Hamilton County Commission waffle on a $500,000 track at Central High School with a certain curiosity because the same high school ... (click for more)

Smooth-Operating Cameron Leads Tyner Past 'Canes

Tyner may occasionally have an off night scoring, but that Rams defense is always spot-on. East Hamilton saw that first hand Thursday night in a hot Tyner Academy gymnasium. It didn’t rain points. Neither offense was sparkling, but the Rams had a distinct edge on one end of the court throughout the game – East Hamilton’s. The Rams got to almost every loose ball, most ... (click for more)
