Throughout the month of February 2013:

Community Health:  Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening.  Free screening to detect bulge in artery wall.  For men and women 65 or older, no previous diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm, and no abdominal CT in the past five years. Memorial Hospital Glenwood, Memorial Hospital Hixson and Memorial Ooltewah.  Registration and appointment required.  Call 495-6000 for information and to schedule an appointment.

Feb. 1

Diabetes:   Diabetes Self-Management Program.  This program provides an overview of diabetes and treatment/prevention of complications, diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting.  Memorial’s Diabetes and Nutrition Center can help you obtain a physician’s referral and provide cost information.  Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Memorial Hospital.  8:45 am – 2:30 pm. Registration required at 495-7970. 

Feb. 1

Mammography: Memorial Health Care System’s Mobile Health Coach to provide mammogram screenings.  Women age 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months are eligible with or without insurance. Location: Volunteers in Medicine, 5705 Martin Rd – 5900 Building Eastgate Center, Chattanooga, TN 37411. Times: 9 am to 4 pm. To schedule an appointment call 423-855-8220 ext. 5. 

Feb. 6

Feb. 6

Weight Loss:  Bariatric Seminar.   Attend this FREE informative seminar to learn more about the Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y and gastric banding weight loss procedures.  This seminar is geared specifically towards individuals who are at least 100 pounds overweight.  6 pm – 7:30 pm, Memorial Hospital Community Rooms.  Call 495-2245 for reservations.

O Negative Blood Supply Critically Low

Blood Assurance, the non-profit regional blood center, is in critical need of type O negative blood, said officials. Currently level 1 trauma centers are using 20 percent more O negative blood than last year. Typically, 275 units of O negative type blood are sent weekly to area hospitals, but the demand has surpassed the number of donations by 18 percent in the last two months. ... (click for more)

Community Event And Health Fair For National Infant Mortality Awareness Month

Plan Revived For 5-Story Boutique Hotel Next To The Walnut Street Bridge

Plans have been revived for a five-story boutique hotel next to the Walnut Street Bridge. Vision Hospitality Group said the yet-to-be named hotel will provide 90 rooms featuring high-end amenities and exemplary service in the city's art district. Grand Jury Says County Needs To Start "Immediately" On Funding A New County Jail

Members of the Hamilton County Grand Jury said in a final report that the county needs to start "immediately" on funding a replacement for the Hamilton County Jail. Better Plan for Walnut Street Hotel
