A Chattanooga City Council Candidate Forum will be held at the Chattanooga Public Library on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the downtown branch on the fourth floor. The event is part of the newly launched Creative Citizenship program presented by the Chattanooga Chapter of AIGA, a professional association for design, in partnership with the Chattanooga Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Chris Woodhull, a former Knoxville city council representative and current Chattanooga resident, will moderate the forum.
As part of the Creative Citizenship program, candidates running for City Council positions in the upcoming Chattanooga municipal elections will not only present their platforms, but will be asked to discuss how they will each tap the creative citizenry as a resource to solve social issues within their districts. An audience question and answer session will follow the discussion.
Friday’s forum will be followed by Designfest: A Day of Design Thinking and Solutions, on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Public Library. Chattanooga mayoral candidate Andy Berke will kick off the activities. The event is free and open to the public.
The goal for DesignFest is to increase voter turnout in the upcoming March elections, and to brainstorm ideas that will result in future Creative Citizenship events, communications tools, apps and posters. A “Get Out And Vote” poster design rally will be part of Designfest as well and posters designed on Saturday will be printed by Wonderpress and distributed around the city.
Attendees are encouraged to participate in the full two-day program. After hearing City Council candidates discuss their positions on Friday evening, teams of citizens will gather Saturday morning to put their heads together to begin brainstorming and designing new techniques to build relationships with the local government.
