Flossie Donahue Batts, 75, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.  

Flossie was born on May 1, 1937 in Chattanooga, TN.  She became a Christian early in life and was a faithful member of Washington Hills United Methodist Church.

Flossie was a 1956 graduate of Howard High School and received a nursing degree from Grady Memorial in Atlanta.  After 38 years of service, she retired from Moccasin Bend Mental Health Hospital.

Flossie was an avid fan of basketball and football.  She loved her Raiders, The Heat, Georgetown and Clemson.  She also loved cooking, gardening, reading and walking.   On quiet evenings, she enjoyed listening to jazz and Johnny Mathis.  Flossie was also wonderful at the now fading art of cursive penmanship.

Those preceding Flossie in death include her husband, Sully Batts, Sr.; father, Harry Donahue and mother, Willie Lois Donahue.

She is survived by two sons, Sully Donya (Valerie) Batts, Jr., Landis Batts of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Kristal (Sean) Hacker and Sully Donya Batts, III, both of Chattanooga; one great-granddaughter, Jordyn Hacker; supportive cousin, Venus Lewis; close friends, Joyce Halsey, Pat Woods, Phillip Malone and Antonio Hughes.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Andrew Frierson, Jr. officiating.  

The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, Jan. 27, with the family receiving friends from 4–6 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
