Virginia M. Cooper Johnson, 69, formerly of Chattanooga, died on January 20, 2013 in Fayetteville, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Early L. Cooper, Sr. and Dimple Salmon Smartt.

Survivors include her siblings, Betty Moseley, Mary Tankersley, Claudett Hendley, Edward (Lizz) Cooper and Dennis Finley of Chattanooga; George Salmon, Knoxville and Early (Kathryn) Cooper, Jr., Florence, Ala.; uncle, Claude (Lila) Salmon; stepmother, Mattie Cooper; other relatives and friends.

Services will be on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Fayetteville, N.C.  

Wiseman Mortuary, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Elder Cyril A. Myers, Sr., 80, of Collegedale, was born July 8, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died on May 9, 2015 in Collegedale. City Seeking Grant To Improve Signals At 32 Intersections

The city is seeking a $2 million federal grant to go along with $500,000 in city funds for a project to improve signals at 32 intersections. There would also be bike and pedestrian improvements. The routes include Brainerd Road, Lee Highway, Shallowford Road, Gunbarrel Road and Hamilton Place Boulevard. The application is for a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Grant. (click for more)

Two-time Olympic goal medal winner Kristin Armstrong won the USA Cycling Professional Time Trial Championship in a record time at the Volkswagen course on Saturday morning.
