Mary Joy Smith Powell, 85, of Ringgold, Georgia, died on Monday, January 28, 2013. 

A native of South Pittsburg, Tn., she had lived in the Ringgold area for the past 25 years. 

Mary was a former employee of Cutter Laboratory where she worked for 16 years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class at Parkway Baptist Temple.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Max Powell and parents, James Smith and Maggie Johnson Smith Martin. 

She is survived by her caregiver, Gladys Johnson of Rossville. 

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. 

Friends will be received on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 1:30-5 p.m., and Thursday, until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel, Ringgold.

Christel Millard Mahan, 87, of Rossville, died on Saturday, April 19, 2014.  She was a native of East Prussia Germany and had lived in the Chattanooga and Rossville area since 1948, becoming a citizen of the United States in January of 1949.  She had worked as a secretary at Bryan Hosiery Mills for five years and had worked as a line supervisor at Cutter Laboratories ... Child Playing With Cigarette Lighter Starts $25,000 Mobile Home Fire

A child playing with a cigarette lighter started a mobile home fire on Saturday morning. At 9 a.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 6561 Cassie Lane. It took four fire companies about 10 minutes to get the fire under control. The fire was contained to one bedroom. No injuries were reported. Damage to the home is around $25,000. (click for more)
