It's bizarre to hear City Council members blame the Tennessee American Water Company for the recent sewer charge woes. Tennessee American gave ample warning to local governments that they no longer wished to charge for the ever-increasing sewer fees. I believe Tennessee American rightfully determined that the general poplace would see that their water bill was reasonable, and in turn resist city government's attempt to take over the company.
Sally Robinson, the recent sewer bills aren't a public relations nightmare for the water company.
Rather, it is now clear where the incompetence and runaway costs exists -- government-run services. If the City Council or the mayor believe Chattanoogans want the government to take over the water company, then the council is clearly out of touch. We better ask the mayoral candidates where they stand on this before we end up with another debacle.
