Avis Smith Browning, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. She was 82.

Avis was born in Waverly, Tn., and was a retired Laboratory Technician for DuPont.  She was also a faithful and active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Jones Browning; parents, Elsie Parker Smith and Thomas Leslie Smith of Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee; brother, Thomas Smith, Jr.; and niece, Teresa Patterson.

Avis is survived by her daughter, Anne Rhea Browning of Chattanooga, and loving sisters and brothers, Syble Patterson, Erin, Tn.; Gale Kuykendall, Cookeville, Tn.; Slayden Smith, Clarksville, Tn., and Roland Smith, Erin, Tn.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews; Melissia Gray, Andy Patterson, Larry Mason, David Smith, Jennifer Kuykendall, Terry L. Smith, Smitty Smith, Jeff Kuykendall, Michael Patterson, Amy Rye, Chad Smith, Ron Smith, and special friends, Jesse Blowe and Margie Flynt; all of whom she cherished and loved dearly. 

The family would like to thank the staffs at Red Bank Life Care Center and Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Pam, Cheryl, and Shonna.  They all provided love and compassion to Avis, and for that we are so grateful.

The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, and 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the North Chapel.

Services for Avis will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Chaplain David Smith, Jennifer Kuykendall, Michael Patterson and Anne Browning participating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the nephews and Jesse Blowe serving as pallbearers.
