CTFP: Judge, Jury And Executioner - And Response (2)

Thursday, January 03, 2013

The Chattanooga Times Free Press has told of Congressman Scott DesJarlais' sins over and over and over. The CTFP seems to have a goal of driving this man from office. They have quit being a newspaper to inform the public to being the judge, jury and executioner.

No one approves what happened 12 years ago, but the voters still returned him to office. That wasn’t good enough for our local paper. I guess what troubles me is the vindictiveness they harbor and practice.

It would be great to have a newspaper that is open, honest and non-partial. If the morals of an elected official is so terrible to our local paper, then it should cover all politicians of both parties.

For instance, cover the fair-haired boy of the Democrats Bill Clinton - poster boy of adulators following in the footsteps of John, Robert and Teddy Kennedy. The CTFP had no problem with the leading adulterer campaigning for Obama. I guess the old saying is true that ”birds of a feather flock together” or you can judge people by the company they keep and accept.

Maybe we should do away with elections and let the CTFP make the choices for us. Maybe the Congressman should check into the background of all of the employees of the CTFP and make the indiscretions found public. Turn about is fair play.

One thing that is missing at the CTFP is a forgiving heart, but that might be a requirement for the job.

I would wager that the sins of Mr. DesJarlais are what got him into this mess - both what happened years ago and, more recently, trying to lie to cover it up.  And if I were one of his friends or constituents, I would not want to be judged by "keeping his company." That doesn't speak very highly of them, now does it?

Perhaps we should worry less about the CTFP's forgiving heart and more about Mr. DesJarlais lack of morals and ethics - since those are obviously not a requirement for the job.

Monopolistic media giants have always attempted to sway the news. If they didn't, small alternative news outlets, like the Chattanoogan.com, would not exist because there would be no niche for them to thrive within.

Ted Turner colored the news tremendously because of his ultra-liberal editorial edicts (the Fonda Effect?), as does Fox News, and so many others. Your efforts to curb CPC's local political influence for doing nothing more (or less) than they have done since inception is, while laudable, a little late.

Let's Honor Luther

I would like to challenge the city.  There are two ways we could honor Luther.  Build a new facility for the Humane Society and name it after Luther.  Then we should create an academy for young people in the city to teach them how to be like Luther, learn to be of service to your fellow man. What about it Chattanooga?  Karen Dale Hixson (click for more)
