Nichols, Ethel Griffith

Ethel Griffith Nichols, 93, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, died on January 3, 2013 in a local health care facility in Collegedale.   

She was retired from Redstone Arsenal and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nichols and her brothers, John E. Griffith and J.R. Griffith of South Pittsburg. 

She is survived by one sister, Josephine G. Bristow and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Cumberland View Cemetery, South Pittsburg, Tn., with the Reverend Al Miller officiating.

Guarnier Wins National Championship In Photo Finish At Chattanooga

Megan Guarnier barely nipped young sprinter Coryn Rivera at the finish line at MLK Boulevard in downtown Chattanooga to win the women's USA Cycling national title on Saturday. City Seeking Grant To Improve Signals At 32 Intersections

The city is seeking a $2 million federal grant to go along with $500,000 in city funds for a project to improve signals at 32 intersections. There would also be bike and pedestrian improvements. The routes include Brainerd Road, Lee Highway, Shallowford Road, Gunbarrel Road and Hamilton Place Boulevard. The application is for a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Grant. (click for more)
