George King, Sr.
George Ricks King, 81, died on January 24, 2013 at an area health care facility.
He was born in Leighton, Ala., on May 5, 1931 to the late Freddie Shaw and late Ella Ricks.
He was educated at Howard High School in Chattanooga. He confessed Jesus Christ and attended Westside Baptist Church in Chattanooga, where he served on the Usher Board. George enjoyed driving the church bus and he really enjoyed traveling with his grandson, Edward Rowell.
He worked for DuPont, where he retired after 33 years.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Serepta S. Rowell; sons, Arlyce D. (Rosyln) King and George M. (Francine) King and George King, Jr.; grandchildren, Edward (Nicole) Rowell, Melvin King, Arlyce King, Jr., Arnesha Davis, Rocshelia King and Shelia Depp; host of great-grandchildren, and the mother of his children, Thelma Tancredi; beloved sisters, Imogene Singleton and Linda Shaw; uncle, Percy (Penny) Ricks; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, at Westside Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, Jan. 31, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
