East Ridge City Councilman Denny Manning on Wednesday went to City Hall to ask that an item be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting dealing with the contract of City Manager Tim Gobble.
Councilman Manning declined to make any further comment on the issue.
Relations have been strained between Mr. Gobble - the former sheriff of Bradley County - and the new majority on the council.
Councilman Manning in mid-December joined with Vice Mayor Jim Bethune and new Councilman Marc Gravitt to fire City Attorney John Anderson.
The next council meeting will be Feb. 7.
Mr. Gobble said at the last council meeting that he may hire attorney Anderson as his attorney should any issue arise concerning his job performance. He said under his contract the city would be obligated to pay the Anderson charges.
