Monday, January 7, 2013

Elon's Kelsey Evans put back a missed layup with six seconds left in regulation to tie the UTC Lady Mocs 58-58, then the Phoenix ran away in the overtime period for a 70-60 home win on Monday night.

The Lady Mocs led late in the contest 54-49 after Ashlen Dewart hit two free throws. But Elon scrapped back for the tie.

Kayla Christopher missed a shot at the buzzer that would have won in regulation for UTC.

Dewart scored 20 and Christopher 15. Alex Black and Kylie Lambert had 8 each and Taylor Hall 5.

UTC led 35-32 at the half.

The Lady Mocs hit on only 6 of 25 three-point tries.

Ali Ford scored 21 for Elon, while Evans had 19 and Kelsey Harris 14.

Elon improves to 6-7, 3-1.

The Lady Mocs suffer just their third loss of the season and their first conference defeat. UTC is now 10-3, 3-1.

Chattanooga now leads the series 17-3.
