Three South Pittsburg running backs took charge of the game and led the Pirates to a 47-19 win over the Boyd-Buchanan Bucs on Friday night. Jajuan Lankford had three touchdowns, Kahlil Mitchell had two, and Darnez Fitzgerald also scored twice. With seven rushing touchdowns, sportscasters called them a “three-headed monster.”
The Pirates scored on both of their first two drives in the first quarter, and again at the first of the second quarter. However, the Bucs gained some momentum when they scored after getting the ball from a South Pittsburg fumble with 90 seconds left in the half.
Boyd-Buchanan running back Austin Jackson scored a touchdown in the third quarter. This was quickly followed by another South Pittsburg touchdown.
The next Pirate touchdown was an impressive 75-yard-run by Lankford. The Bucs scored again, but were not able to hold the South Pittsburg offense in the final quarter.
With this win, South Pittsburg is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the district. Boyd-Buchanan is 2-5 and remains 1-0 in district games.
