Obama And The Bible - And Response (4)

Sunday, October 13, 2013
Roy,

I read your recent "A Pastor's Glorious Stand" letter. Nice. When I say nice, I mean it was nice how you tied in President Obama as somehow being "the most anti-Christian President of all time" to the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a non-profit group founded in 1975 in Madison, Wis. Obviously you are one never to miss an opportunity to denigrate the President, even if it requires putting together two unrelated ideas in an effort to make a misguided point. In our staunch red state surroundings you are preaching, as it were, to the choir with your drivel. Could you have at least presented some evidence to back up that claim? No? I'm not surprised. It's much easier to write without proof, isn't it?

I would only remind you of Matthew 6.5-6:

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for
they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."
6 "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

I would not presume to judge, but it seems that both you and the good Pastor have found your metaphorical street corners.

Herb, if you need proof of Barrack Hussein Obama's anti-Christian regime, watch the news.

Might I point out in Matthew 14. John the Baptist was imprisoned by the King (Herod) and had John beheaded.

All the King cared about was what the masses thought of him (polls). Also the King sure didn't like John confronting him on his life style of adultery. Sounds familiar doesn't it?

My Bible tells me that John wasn't prone to just sitting and praying quietly behind closed doors. He was loud and telling the folks to repent. God's chosen are not restricted to being quiet and to not offend anyone by speaking the truth. Yes, that may have saved John's head or his freedom but when God puts a message in a believers heart, it'll be heard.

You comparing a pastor to a Pharisee is silly. It sounds to me, you are defending your metaphorical King.

I watch the news. What is it I should be seeing as proof of a anti-Christian regime? Please don't say Fox News, that would be silly. At any rate, I'm still not sure what President Obama's Christianity has to do with the goings on of some non-profit group from Paul Ryan's state. Remember, the Freedom From Religion Foundation was called in by a concerned Sale Creek parent, as Roy Exum so artfully omitted.

School is school and church is church. When I go to church, I don't want to hear a lecture on chemistry and physics. When I go to school, I don't want to learn about John the Baptist, or the teachings of the Quran, for that matter. Pretty simple, or at least it should be.

Mike,

You lose your informed readers the second you write Barrack Hussein Obama and his regime because your choice of words say more about you and your political persuasion that it does about President Obama.

You say when God puts a message in a believer’s heart, it will be heard. Oh contraire, Mike. The believer may shout from the roof tops what he believes to be true, he may feel inspired to call the President a nazi, a non believer, a non-Christian, a foreigner, or an illegitimate president, but I would say it is a tale full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

You say we need to watch television in order to know the truth and I am assuming you would recommend Fox News.  Unfortunately, I have found Fox News to be full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

And for those of us, who believe in, have respect for and voted for President Obama, it is not because we believe him to be a king, metaphorical or otherwise.  We simple believe he is a good man, educated and wise who has worked tirelessly for the benefit of all Americans in spite of overwhelming opposition. As for the President and the Bible, I think these words would have special meaning for him.

Luke 14:12-14 Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

And church and state are supposed to be separate. Simple, yet so many people forget.

Where Has All Our Road Money Gone?

I travel four roads almost daily:  Dodds Avenue, Dayton Boulevard, Third Street and Northpoint Boulevard.  Why these roads cannot be repaired I will never know. I know, part of Northpoint is privately owned, by not the most. Just about everywhere you go the streets are in terrible shape. We need to get this resolved.  Joan Smith Chattanooga (click for more)
