Forty Walgreens stores in the Greater Chattanooga area, starting Monday, will act as collection sites for gift cards to be delivered to recovering service members at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Special drop boxes can be found at participating Walgreens stores to receive gift card and monetary donations.
A website has been set up to receive online donations at www.HonoringTheSacrifice.org. A list of participating Walgreens stores can be found on the website. For those wishing to mail donations or gift cards they may do so at: HONORING THE SACRIFICE/P.O. Box 21806/Chattanooga, TN 37424.
The gift card drive will be the first event for the non-profit Honoring the Sacrifice. The vision behind this non-profit is to provide assistance to post 9/11 wounded warriors who have received the Purple Heart.
Specialist Andrew Smith lost both of his legs when he stepped on an IED on a dismounted foot patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan on March 9, 2012. From the moment Spc. Smith was injured he has felt the support of friends, family, and complete strangers. Spc. Smith’s desire is that every wounded warrior will experience the same level of support and assistance that he received. It is that desire that has driven Spc. Smith and family to start Honoring The Sacrifice.
