Powers, Goggans Chosen County Magistrates

The County Commission on Wednesday chose Ron Powers and Nathaniel Goggans to serve for the upcoming year as magistrates (judicial commissioners).

There initially were 23 applicants to the commission including incumbents Larry Ables and Jeff Smith. Mr. Ables announced on Tuesday that he was withdrawing his name. He said he planned to run for General Sessions Court judge.

Remaining candidates were Mr. Smith, Mr. Powers and Mr. Goggans along with Senitria Cloud, Bob Davis, Jason Fisher, Katherine Pagnani, Richard Pettit, Michael Raulston, Jennifer Wade, Melvin Werner and Justin Woodward.

The chief magistrate makes $66,143 and the other magistrates are paid $61,143.

The magistrates set bonds and sign warrants at the county jail. They provide coverage on nights and weekends.

Appeals Court Rules Against WWTA In Lawsuit Brought By Apartment Complex Over $8 Monthly Charges To Units
