Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is October.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  On Thursday the contractor will implement a closure of Signal Mountain Road under the bridge between the ramps to clean bridge beams for the U.S. 27 North exit ramp bridge over Signal Mountain Road from 7 p.m.-6 a.m.  Should weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from taking place, it will be rescheduled for the next available night.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the new pavement on the north side of the roadway to will allow the contractor access to work on the south side of the roadway.  Drivers are urged to be alert to the new pattern and obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.   

U.S. 27 (Rossville Blvd.) resurfacing from Foust Street (LM 5.62) to the Georgia State Line (LM 7.93):  Work on this project continues.  During this project, lane closures for asphalt paving will only be allowed on Sunday through Thursday nights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. Concrete replacement work will only be allowed on weekends from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.  THP will be present to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  

SR-58 resurfacing from north of Eller Road (LM 6.43) to Lakewood Acres Drive (LM 9.20):  Work on project has begun.  The contractor will be paving during this report period.  There will be temporary lane closures as required on this project.  One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated completion time is November. 

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May 2014.  



North Market Street Closures Announced For Utility Work

The southbound and center lanes of North Market Street will be closed from  8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.  on  Monday through Wednesday, for a utility project at 109 N. Highway 58 Man Charged In Fatal Hit And Run In Dayton, Tn.

A Highway 58 man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run of a Rhea County man.   Walter Hale was badly injured and later died after he was struck in Dayton.   Authorities were led to Douglas Edward Alvey, 52, through video from the We Care business in Dayton, where the 60-year-old victim worked.   After officers with the Dayton ... Man, 78, Found Dead With Gunshot Wound To The Chest At Residence On Central Avenue

A 78-year-old man has been found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest at a residence on Central Avenue. Chattanooga Police were called to the 1900 block of Central Avenue on Thursday at 10:08 a.m. Upon arrival, Chattanooga Police officers located George Garth deceased. A Touching Day Of Caring

Today more than 40 volunteers from CBL came to Bethel Bible Village to help out, working inside and outside the ministry's cottages for children. This was no ordinary United Way Day of Caring.  The team leader, Dan Summerlin , is facing a serious struggle with cancer.  Bethel's kids were so blessed that Dan would come lead this team while dealing with this challenge. ...
