The Tennessee Aquarium’s annual family-friendly Halloween party, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, is taking on a nautical theme. Both buildings will be filled with fun for “bouys” and “ghouls” for this year’s event will spill out onto the Aquarium Plaza.
AquaScarium VI: Pirates of the Aquarium will begin at 6 p.m. with swashbuckling action. “We have two pairs of pirate characters who will be clattering and clanging their way around outside the Ocean Journey building in a choreographed sword fight,” said Mara-Lynne Payne, the Aquarium’s membership manager. “Inside, kids will start their adventure by getting an eye patch and learning some pirate lingo before searching for candy treasure.”
It’s always an extra treat to visit the Aquarium after hours, especially when SCUBA divers, dressed like super heroes and other fanciful characters, pose for photos with kids who are equally decked out in costumes. “Our volunteer divers really enjoy entertaining everyone during Aqua-Scarium,” said Ms. Payne. “They do a great job of engaging our guests and putting a lot of smiles on faces.”
As guests navigate both buildings they can also "boogie like a buccaneer" on the dance floor, pose for a pirate portrait, hug a costumed mascot, meet Magellan’s ghost and discover hidden booty in Davey Jones’ locker. Guests will also get up close to critters during animal encounters - including the chance to see crazy-looking coconut crabs.
There will be Blue Bell Ice Cream served up under the pirate pavilion between River Journey and Ocean Journey.
