The Dalton State cross country teams will compete this weekend in the Asics Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina Beaufort.
The races will start and finish at the Hardeeville, SC school complex. “The course includes parts of the school area, Jasper Park, and the Cooler property,” said USCB Cross Country Coach Larry Kimball. “The course is flat and on grass and trails except for road crossings.”
The 8K men’s race will begin Saturday morning at 9:00. The women will follow with a 5K at 9:45 a.m. Five athletes will score with the next two displacing. Remaining athletes will not influence scoring in any way,
A similar course was used in the 2008 and 2010 Sun Conference Championship races. USCB will also host this year’s Sun Conference event.
Kimball said the course records were set during last year’s Sand Shark Invitational. For the men, Evans Kirwa from Embry Riddle finished in 24:05. Juline Brice from SCAD-Savannah finished the 5K in 17 minutes.
Kimball said the course has been widened to accommodate more runners.
