Two Chattanooga men are facing charges of aggravated burglary, theft over $500, and vandalism after being caught by police in the crawl space of a vacant brick house on Randolph Street. Police were notified of the break-in by an unknown caller, and the men were still under the house when officers arrived.
Eric Johnson, 24, and Harry Gauldin, 49, were both taken into custody. Police said that when Gauldin exited the crawl space, he was carrying wire cutters and a large duffel bag containing copper wire. These items were all taken in as evidence.
Ava Robinson, an employee of River City Property Management, said this particular house had been burglarized several times recently. Ms. Robinson also said that the owner of the house was interested in prosecuting Gauldin and Johnson.
For Johnson, bail has been set at $1,000. For Gauldin, who had other pending charges, bail was set for $10,000.
